Chris Tyas OBE
Chris has a globally recognised pedigree in the consumer goods industry. During his time at Mars and Nestlé, he held a wide range of supply chain and operational roles concluding his time at Nestle as Senior VP and Global Supply Chain Head.
He joined GS1 UK as chair in December 2018 and is committed to ensuring the team demonstrates the consumer and patient benefits of solving industry challenges through collaboration and trusted data.
Chris has been asked by the government to chair several key industry initiatives, including the Food Resilience Industry Forum (FRIF). FRIF brought together all parts of the Agrifood supply chain including retailers, manufacturers, logistics providers and growers to ensure that food security and consumer needs are proactively addressed throughout the pandemic and during the BREXIT transition. This work is a perfect example of how collaboration can resolve industry challenges at pace to protect consumers.
More recently, Chris was appointed to co-chair the Food Data Transparency Partnership a initiative that brings together government, industry and civil society with the aim of improving the environmental sustainability and healthiness of food and drink through data and processes. Their mission is to improve the availability, quality and comparability of data throughout the supply chain.
Chris also sits on several boards, advising on supply chains, sustainability and recycling as well as being involved with several universities on the development of supply chain education and has spoken at numerous high-profile events such as COP.
He has recently been appointed a non-executive board member of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) the role provides strategic and corporate leadership to the department and has particular responsibility for monitoring performance and delivery.
In January 2021 he was awarded an OBE for services to the food supply chain.
