Recyclever Deploys Reverse Vending Machines at Lothian Buses Depot in Edinburgh
Recyclever has announced the deployment of its reverse vending machines (RVMs) at multiple depots operated by Lothian Buses in Edinburgh, supporting staff-focused recycling initiatives within a high-activity operational environment.

The installation is designed specifically for depot employees rather than passengers, providing a convenient on-site solution for the collection of drinks containers. By placing RVMs within staff areas, the initiative encourages responsible recycling behaviour among employees while helping organisations prepare for the UK’s upcoming Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), led by Exchange for Change and scheduled for October 2027.

Built and manufactured in the UK, Recyclever’s machines are engineered to perform reliably in demanding, real-world settings. Their straightforward operation, durable construction, and efficient internal processes make them well-suited to workplace environments such as depots, where ease of use and minimal disruption are key.

Chris Wood, Director at Recyclever, said:
“While a lot of the focus is on customer-facing locations, staff environments are just as important. Providing a simple, accessible way for employees to recycle on-site helps build good habits ahead of DRS and supports wider sustainability goals within the organisation.”

The deployment also offers an opportunity to gather insights into usage patterns in a closed, staff-only setting—helping to inform how RVMs can be effectively used in similar workplaces across the UK.

For Lothian Buses, the initiative reflects a commitment to improving internal sustainability practices, giving staff a practical way to participate in recycling as part of their working day.

As the UK moves closer to DRS implementation, workplace-based deployments like this highlight the broader role RVMs can play—not just in retail, but across a range of operational environments where convenience, engagement, and preparation for future regulation all matter.
