Phil Hackney is Chief Operating Officer at Matalan, where he is responsible for overseeing the retailer’s end-to-end supply chain, IT, Transformation, GNFR and ESG strategies, supporting the omnichannel retailer’s wider transformation journey.

Phil joined Matalan from The Very Group, where he was Chief Operating Officer and helped to transform the Group from a catalogue business to a digital and consumer credit retailer, whilst driving its supply chain transformation and DE&I and ESG programmes. Before this, he spent nine years at Pets at Home as Logistics Director, where he was part of the executive team responsible for leading the business through its private equity sale to a full floatation. Phil began his career at Boots, where he worked on operational turnarounds, systems implementations and Distribution Centre upgrade programmes across the UK, and later at IT Distribution company, Tech Data, where he spent 9 years working in e-commerce B2B operations in the UK, Europe, Middle East and the US.
