Peter is Chairman of The Fragrance Shop and the Non-Executive Chairman of Quiz Plc and United Carpets. Peter Cowgill was Executive Chairman of JD Sports Fashion plc, a FTSE 100 listed retailer, from 2004 to May 2022 and under his tenure the business developed into a global operation which included not only the JD athleisure banner, but a wide range of businesses encompassing Branded and Wholesale Distribution, Premium Fashion, Outdoor and Gyms. The business expanded exponentially under his leadership, going from a UK based only retailer to being present in 27 territories. Peter also successfully completed a number of acquisitions, the biggest being the acquisition of Finish Line in the United States, a deal worth $558M. Peter is a Chartered Accountant and in 1983 founded Cowgills, an accountancy practice based in the North West of England. Peter was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Bolton University in 2019.
